Then the strong one was off,
a willing arrow, gone, curving into the trees.
-from “Death of a Sparrow,” The Sparrow
I’m pleased to show off the cover design of my forthcoming book, The Sparrow: Selected Poems, A. F. Moritz, whose official “birth date” from Anansi is April 3, 2018. Many thanks to Alysia Shewchuk at Anansi for the cover design, which features a watercolour by Giovanni da Udine (1487-1561). Udine was a student and assistant of Raphael and was known, according to Vasari, for having created a book of birds “which was so well varied and so beautiful that it was a recreation and delight to Rafaello.”
The poem cited above, “Death of a Sparrow,” will be available as a limited edition broadside, which can be purchased on its own, in coordination with this soft-cover edition featuring the Udine, or in coordination with a limited edition hardcover book.
Below, you’ll find links to the key U.S. and Canadian launch dates for The Sparrow. During the second week of April, I will be happy to celebrate with fellow Anansi poets Emma Healey, who launches and Mikko Harvey, who launches .
