Great Silent Ballad wins the 2025 Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Prize

Wonderful News!

Great Silent Ballad has won the 2025 Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Prize!

The $10,000 prize, established in 2024 by Eurithe Purdy, honours the most outstanding new poetry book published by an established Canadian poet who has published five or more poetry books. The winner is announced annually on April 21, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Al Purdy’s passing. Laisha Rosnau, Sam Solecki and Sid Marty comprised the jury for the 2025 prize.

In the award announcement, Eurithe Purdy said, “Speaking for myself and my late husband Al, I am very pleased with the judges’ decision to award the second Al and Eurithe Purdy Poetry Prize to A. F. Moritz. Mr. Moritz has a long and distinguished body of work both as a poet and a teacher. He is also a great mentor and encourager of younger writers, something Al would especially approve of.”

I am thankful to everyone at Anansi for bringing this book to life and to everyone at the APAFA for this great honour.
