Danforth Tragedy Commemoration

Please join me at The City of Toronto’s commemoration of the Danforth Tragedy on Sunday, July 21, at 1:30 pm in Withrow Park (725 Logan Ave). This solemn ceremony acknowledges those who lost their lives and those who were injured during the July 22, 2018 shooting on Danforth Ave.

The event will include the reading of names, a moment of silence, a musical selection from an interfaith choir, a recognition of the injured, and a poem written and read by myself in my capacity as Toronto’s Poet Laureate.

As the ceremony is outside, those wishing to attend are reminded to check the weather and prepare for the conditions, including bringing an umbrella for rain, or hats and water for hot weather.

Please note, there is limited parking surrounding the park and temporary road closures may be in effect. For those considering transit, Withrow Park is approximately a 10-minute walk from TTC Line 2 Chester or Pape Stations, the 504 streetcar stop at Broadview Ave. at Withrow Ave., and the 506 streetcar stop at Gerrard St. E. at Logan Ave. See my Event Listings for a map.

If you are unable to make this event, you may wish to attend the Community Vigil taking place on Monday, July 22, at Sunset (around 8:50pm) at Alexander the Great Parquette (at the intersection of Logan and Danforth). For more information, please visit the city’s website.
